Getting started

Before you sell, check this

The checklist before your first sale: published content, a delivery on the gateway, a test purchase, emails, domain, appearance, terms and your team.

Before you open sales, go through the list below, in order. Do the same before you bring in the students you already have.

Each item prevents a common complaint:

  • the student who paid and cannot see the course;
  • the email that arrives without your brand;
  • the module that opened too early.

The most important rule: without the delivery in step 3, no sale gives access.

1. The content is published

Showcases, products, modules and lessons start as a Draft. Only administrators see drafts.

For students to see them, the status must be Published or Unlisted. Unlisted is visible only to those with access. Inside a product, Publish All publishes modules and lessons at once.

Also check the Offer URL of each paid product. A student who sees the product on the showcase but does not own it goes to this page. Without it, the Home page counts the product under Products without an offer.

See Showcases and groups, Products and formats and Modules and lessons.

2. The release is the way you want it

Without a schedule, every lesson opens as soon as the student gets access.

Does the course open in parts? For example: one module a week, on a date, after an exam. Then:

  1. Before the first sale, create the schedule in Content → Drip content.
  2. Check each rule.

See Drip content.

3. The delivery exists and is connected to the gateway

The delivery is what turns a sale into access. Create a delivery for the offer you sell:

  1. Open Sales → Deliveries and create the delivery.
  2. Pick the gateway in Select a Gateway.
  3. Fill in the Product ID exactly as the gateway sends it.
  4. Choose the Sales Mode: One-time sale or Subscription.
  5. Choose the products released and the Access Time of each one.
  6. Choose the schedule and the tags.
  7. On the gateway, paste the delivery's postback URL.
  8. On the gateway, select the events.

Heads up: this is where most mistakes happen. A sale that arrives with no matching delivery is stored in Sales. But it releases nothing.

See Deliveries and Payment gateways.

4. A test purchase went through

Make a real purchase of the offer. Use an email that does not belong to an administrator of the account. Then check:

  • The delivery shows Last sale received with the date, in the Gateway connection section.
  • The sale shows up in Sales → Sales as processed. If it came with an error, See sales with errors shows the reason.
  • The access email arrived.
  • The login in the email enters the student area and opens the right product, for the right time.

See Sales received and The student paid and has no access.

5. The emails carry your brand

In Settings → Emails, adjust the branding, the sender and the templates:

  • Purchase welcome: a new student's first sale;
  • Import welcome;
  • the free registration one;
  • the new access one.

The first three carry the login and password. You can edit their text. See Emails.

6. Domain and appearance

  • Settings → Domain: the address with your brand, such as courses.yourbrand.com. It must be a subdomain. Cademí does not accept a root domain. See Domain.
  • Settings → Student area: page title, accent color, logo, student menu and footer. See Student area.
  • Settings → Access screens: the look of the login and signup screens. See Access screens.
  • Settings → Sharing: how the platform link looks on social media and WhatsApp. See Sharing.
  • Settings → App: if you want to offer the app. See App.

Then open Access as student and walk through the student area: the showcase, the product page, a lesson. See The dashboard on your first sign-in.

7. Terms of acceptance

If students must accept terms:

  1. Set the platform's Initial Terms of Acceptance in Settings → Student area.
  2. Set a product's terms in the product's Settings tab.

Those who already accepted do not need to accept again when the text changes. See Student area and Product terms of acceptance.

8. Your team has access

In Settings → Administrators, create an access for each person on the team. Give each one the permissions of their role.

Use an email different from the one the person uses as a student. The login tries the administrator password first. See Administrators.

Good to know

Password and devices.

Two settings live in Settings → Security → Authentication: the initial password of new students and the device limit per student (3 by default). See Authentication.

Student limit.

Every sale, sign-up or import needs a free seat in the plan. The Home page shows the percentage used. The details are in Plan, in the avatar menu. See Plan and student limit.

Students you already have.

Bring them in by spreadsheet in Students → Imports. Do it after going through the list above. See Student import.

Certificate.

If the course issues a certificate, enable and set it up inside the product. Do it before the first cohort finishes. See Certificates.
