Student area

How the student area looks and behaves: language, time zone, page title, acceptance terms, colors, logo, footer and the menu links.

The student area is the side of the platform students see after they log in. In Settings → Student area you set how it looks: language, time zone, title, acceptance terms, colors, logo, footer and menu. This screen does not decide who gets into which product; that is the enrollment (Enrollments and access).

What each tab changes

The screen has four tabs:

TabWhat it defines
GeneralLanguage, Time zone, Page title and Terms acceptance on first access
AppearanceNavigation model, Accent color, Display mode, Font size, Logo and Favicon
FooterThe footer of the student area and of the access screens: the message, the legal notice and the terms and privacy links
MenuThe links in the student-area menu, who sees each one and whether the side menu is shown

The most important rule: the tabs save in different ways.

  • General, Appearance and Footer are one form. Change what you want in the three tabs and click Save now in the footer bar, once.
  • Menu saves on its own. Each link you create, edit, move or delete is saved right away.

General

Language

Language is the platform language for students: Portuguese, English, Spanish or French. It applies to every student in the account.

The language changes the platform's own texts: buttons, menus and notices. It does not translate lesson content.

Time zone

Time zone does two things:

  • It shows dates to students and staff in this time zone.
  • It reads the dates you type in the dashboard in this time zone, such as a release date.

The default is Brasília time (America/Sao_Paulo).

Changing the time zone does not change anything already recorded. The time of each sale, access or completed lesson stays the same. It only shows in the new time zone.

Page title

Page title is the text in the browser tab, on every page of the student area. It is usually the name of your business or brand. It also completes the default title used when the platform is shared on social media (Sharing).

Terms acceptance on first access

Terms acceptance on first access makes students accept terms before they enter the platform. The row shows the current state: Configured or No terms are required on first access.

The Add terms (or Edit terms) button opens the Initial Terms of Acceptance page. There you write the text in an editor.

How the terms work:

  • The terms are the text. With text, a student who has not accepted yet sees the terms before any page of the area. The student checks the acceptance box and clicks Sign and access the content.
  • Without text, nobody is blocked. To not require acceptance, leave the editor blank.
  • The acceptance is stored with the date, the IP address and the browser of the person who accepted.
  • Those who already accepted do not see the terms again, even if you edit the text. Only those who never accepted see the current text.
  • These are the terms for the whole platform. A product can have its own terms, which the student accepts when opening that product: Product acceptance terms.
  • On a clone, the platform terms are copied from the source account when the clone is created. They are not edited on the clone.

Language and favicon also show in the dashboard. That is why saving a change to them reloads the page.

Appearance

  • Navigation model: how showcases and products are organized for the student. The options are Educational Model and Cademi Model. The Cademi Model is the streaming layout, with the showcases on the home page. The choice changes what can go into the menu (see the Menu tab below).
  • Accent color: the color of buttons, links and highlighted elements in the student area. The login screens follow this color, unless you set another one in Access screens.
  • Display mode: Light or Dark, for the whole student area. The admin dashboard has its own look and does not change.
  • Font size: Default or Larger. Larger increases the text across the whole student area, for those who need more legibility.
  • Logo: the image in the top menu of the student area. Upload the horizontal version, with no transparent margins. It shows 35 px tall. PNG, up to 600 kb.
  • Favicon: the icon in the browser tab, next to the title. Square PNG, 150x150, up to 100 kb. It is also the fallback icon of the dashboard when the menu is collapsed (Admin dashboard).

The footer shows on the student-area pages and on the access screens (login, sign-up and password recovery). Each row has a switch:

  • Show footer shows or hides the whole footer. When it is off, the following rows disappear.
  • Show “Made with ♥” message completes the footer sentence: "Made with ❤" plus what you type in the field. With the field blank, it reads "for you".
  • Show legal notice shows a fixed legal text in the footer. It is often needed for investment, health or betting content.
  • Show terms-of-use link and Show privacy-policy link show the two links. With the address blank, each link goes to Cademí's default document. To use your own documents, paste their address.

Good to know: hiding the terms-of-use link only hides the link. The first-access acceptance terms keep blocking those who have not accepted yet.

The Menu tab lists the links of the student-area menu, in the order they appear. Each row shows the Item (name and destination), the Type and the audience (Show to).

To change the order, drag the row by its handle or use Move up and Move down. The new order is saved right away.

  1. Open Settings → Student area → Menu.
  2. Click Add link.
  3. In Displayed name, type the name of the item in the menu. For example: "Home" or "Community".
  4. In Available to, choose who sees the item: Everyone, Paid access or Free access.
  5. In Where does this link take the student?, choose the type.
  6. Fill in the destination (see the table below).
  7. Click Create link.

Who is "paid" and who is "free"

Paid access and Free access depend on the student's free-registration mark:

  • A student who came in through free registration has the mark. That student is "free".
  • All other students are "paid".

Heads up: this is where most mistakes happen. Julia signs up for free and later buys a course. The purchase does not remove the free-registration mark. Result: she keeps seeing the Free access links. The mark only goes away when an administrator clears it in the student's profile.

An administrator viewing the area as a student sees every link, whatever the audience.

In External link address, you can use variables. The platform replaces each variable with the data of the student who clicked. Write the variable name in curly braces, like {email}, or between *| and |*, like *|email|*. Both formats work.

VariableBecomes
{uid}The student's identification number on the platform
{nome}The student's first name
{nome_completo}The full name
{email}The email
{celular}The mobile number, as it is in the student's record
{avatar}The address of the student's photo
{is_gratis}1 if the student has the free-registration mark, 0 if not
{instancia_id}Your account's number
{instancia_alias}Your account's subdomain

The student variables also accept the usuario. prefix, like {usuario.email}. A variable that is not on this list stays in the address as written.

Example: the address is https://www.yoursite.com/signup?name={nome}&email={email}. The student Maria Souza has the email maria@example.com. She opens https://www.yoursite.com/signup?name=Maria&email=maria@example.com.

Edit and delete

  • Edit: click the row or Edit. In the window, the button becomes Save changes.
  • Delete: click Delete and confirm in Delete item. You cannot undo the deletion. It only removes the link from the menu; the destination product or showcase does not change.

Side menu

Below the list is Show side menu. It shows or hides the side menu on the student-area pages that use this navigation. The change is saved right away.

Good to know

In the Cademi Model, not every showcase fits in the menu.

In the streaming layout, showcases show on the home page. Only showcases with an embedded page or subdivisions can go into the menu. The link's showcase list shows only the ones that work as a destination.

Destination removed.

If the product or showcase of a link is deleted, the row shows the Destination removed warning. Edit the item and pick another destination, or delete the link.

One language for everyone.

The area's language applies to every student. There is no per-student choice.

The time zone does not rewrite the past.

Recorded times stay the same. Only the time zone they show in changes. After you change the time zone, check your scheduled release dates.

Clone.

Menu links follow the source account: what changes at the source changes on the clones. The platform terms are different. They are copied once, when the clone is created. They cannot be edited on the clone and do not follow later edits at the source.

Frequently asked questions

I changed the acceptance terms. Will those who already accepted have to accept again?

No. The old acceptance still stands, even if you edit the text or clear it and write it again. Only those who never accepted see the current text.

I want students to see the content in English. Is switching the language enough?

The language switches the platform's texts (menus, buttons and notices) for every student. Lessons, product names and what you wrote stay as you wrote them.

I changed the accent color and the login screen did not change.

The access screens have their own color in Access screens. If a color is set there, it wins. Click Use the student area color to follow this screen's color again.
