Clones

This account's child platforms: what a clone receives from the source, what it can change, what stays separate, the student limit and replication.

A clone is a child platform of this account. It receives this account's content so a franchise or a partner can sell the same courses with their own brand, domain and checkout. In Settings → Clones you see the child platforms, adjust each one's student limit and turn replication on or off.

The screen only exists in the source account, and only appears when it has clones.

The idea in one minute

  • The source is the account that creates and edits the content.
  • The clone is the child account. It receives that content.
  • Replication is the sending of content from the source to the clone.

The most important rule: the source owns the content, and each clone owns its own students and its own sales. Received content is edited in the source. A clone's students never move to the source, or to another clone.

What goes from the source to the clone and what stays in each account:

What goes and what stays

What the source sends:

  • showcases, products, modules, lessons, exams and questions;
  • banners and the student menu links;
  • release schedules and deliveries;
  • student tag names;
  • each product's terms and the certificate issuing rule;
  • the custom code blocks.

What the clone can change in what it received:

  • publish or unpublish;
  • in a product, the color, the cover and the certificate (turn on, turn off and change its look).

What stays only in the clone:

  • students, enrollments, sales and progress;
  • support and reports;
  • which students have each tag;
  • the custom domain;
  • everything the clone created: its own showcases, products and deliveries.

In the clone, showcases, products, exams and deliveries that come from the source show the Replica badge. Name, content, structure, deliveries and schedules of a received item are edited in the source.

The clone does not add a product to a received showcase. It does not derive a received product either. If a lesson must be different for one franchise, choose one path:

  • edit the lesson in the source, if the change suits everyone;
  • or give that clone its own product, in a showcase it created.

The platform terms are copied when the clone is created. After that, they do not follow the source's edits. Product terms do.

Files are shared, not copied: the same video or PDF counts once in storage. Billing belongs to the source. A clone does not see billing notices.

The screen

Each row is a child platform. The columns are:

  • ID;
  • Domain: the subdomain and, if there is one, the custom domain;
  • Students: how many it has now and the limit;
  • Admin access and Student access: how many days since someone signed in;
  • Last certificate, Time in use and Created on.

Whoever sees the account's billing also sees the Plan column. A clone with replication turned off shows No replication below the domain.

The search looks up by subdomain or domain. The filters narrow the list:

FilterOptions
Created onA date range
Student limitNo students, At the plan limit
DomainDomain active, Domain in progress, Domain with issues, Subdomain only
Admin accessNo access for 30 days, No access for 90 days, Never accessed
Student accessNo access for 30 days, No access for 90 days, No student ever signed in
CertificateHas issued certificates, Never issued a certificate

Click the row to open the child platform in a new tab. You are already inside its dashboard: an administrator of the source enters the clones without another password. The Trash lists the deleted children.

Step by step

Changing a clone's student limit

  1. Open Settings → Clones.
  2. On the clone's row, click the number in the Students column.
  3. In the window, check Students today: how many students the platform has.
  4. In Student limit, type the maximum. Empty or zero leaves the platform with no limit.
  5. Click Save.

Attention: at the limit, the child platform refuses the next new student. This applies to free sign-up, manual creation and the sale of someone who is not there yet. The sale is recorded with an error. After a spot opens, you can reprocess the sale (see The student paid and has no access). Whoever is already there keeps getting in. Lowering the limit removes no one.

Turning replication on or off

In the row menu:

  • Disable replication makes the child stop receiving new content from the source.
  • Enable replication resumes sending.

Turning it off deletes nothing. What the clone already received stays, and edits and deletions of those items keep arriving. What stops is the arrival of new items.

Good to know

Publishing in the source publishes in the clones.

A status change in the source overrides the clone's choice. To hide a course only in one franchise, unpublish it there. The next status change in the source brings the course back.

Deleting in the source sends the copies to the trash.

Restoring in the source does not restore them in the clones.

This screen does not create clones.

It manages the ones that already exist. A new clone is created by the Cademí team: contact support.

Students don't cross accounts.

The same email in a clone and in the source are two students. To see a child's students, enter it through the row.

Domain.

A clone is born without the source's custom domain. It registers its own in Domain.

Frequently asked questions

I want one franchise to have a lesson different from the others.

If the change suits all of them, edit the lesson in the source. If not, give that clone its own product in a showcase it created. Received content is not edited in the clone.

I turned replication off and the old courses kept changing.

That is expected: turning it off applies to new items. Edits and deletions of what the clone already has keep arriving.

A sale in the franchise failed with a student limit error.

Raise the child's Student limit, or free up a spot in it. Then reprocess the sale in the child platform.

I unpublished a course in the clone and it came back.

The source changed the course's status. A status change in the source overrides the clone's choice.
