Product terms of acceptance

A text the student accepts before opening a product: how to write it, what happens when you change the text and where to see who accepted.

The product terms of acceptance are a text that the student must read and accept before opening that product. Use them for the rules of one piece of content. For example: a training that needs medical supervision, or a course with its own usage rules.

How it works

There are two sets of terms, and one does not depend on the other:

TermsWhere you write themWhen the student must accept
PlatformSettings → Student area, under Terms acceptance on first accessOn first access, before any page
ProductIn the product, Terms of acceptance tab, under Initial Terms of AcceptanceWhen the student opens that product

For the platform terms, click Add terms or Edit terms. A student can have to accept both: the platform terms on entry and the product terms when opening the course. Each product has at most one set of terms.

  • The terms are the text. If the editor is blank, the product asks for no acceptance. Clearing the text removes the requirement at once.
  • The terms have no versions. A student who already accepted does not accept again, also if you change the text or clear it and write it again. Only a student who never accepted that product sees the current text.
  • Cademí records each acceptance, with the date, time, IP address and browser of the student. In the dashboard, the record is in the Logs tab of the student's profile: "Agreed to the product terms:" and the product name. See Student profile.

Heads up: this is where most errors happen. Julia changes the text of the terms and expects all students to accept again. This does not happen: a student who already accepted keeps the old acceptance. If the new text needs an acceptance from everyone, tell the students through another channel.

Step by step

  1. Open the product in Content → Products.
  2. Click the Terms of acceptance tab. It is in the Settings group of the product tabs.
  3. Write the text in the editor, under Initial Terms of Acceptance. It is the same editor as the lessons: headings, paragraphs, lists.

The screen saves on its own while you write. When it is done, the footer bar shows Saved. To remove the terms, clear the text.

What the student sees

When the student opens the product, before the content, the student sees:

  1. the Acceptance Term page, with the product name and the text;
  2. where they are signing from: the IP address and the browser. Cademí keeps this record;
  3. the I have read and accept the Terms and Conditions explained above checkbox;
  4. the Sign and access the content button.

If the student does not tick the box, the screen says they must accept the terms to continue. After the acceptance, the student does not see the terms again in that product.

Good to know

Test the terms.

The preview as a student (Access as student) skips the terms and records nothing. Log in as the student also does not ask the administrator to accept. To see the screen as the student sees it, use a real test student.

Footer link.

Turning off Show terms-of-use link, in the student area footer (Settings → Student area), hides only the link. The acceptance screen stays.

Terms from another account.

In a product synced from another account, the terms open read-only. You change them in the source account.

No ready-made text.

The screen gives no sample text. The terms are yours: write them with the person who handles legal matters in your company.

Frequently asked questions

I rewrote the terms. Do students who already accepted need to accept again?

No, and there is no way to ask for it. The acceptance of a product counts once. If the new text needs a new acceptance from everyone, tell the students through another channel.

Where do I see who accepted?

In each student's profile, Logs tab. The event is "Agreed to the product terms:" with the product name, the date, the IP and the device.

Do these terms apply to the whole platform?

No. These terms are for the product only. The terms for the whole student area are in Settings → Student area, under Terms acceptance on first access.

I tested as a student and the terms did not show.

The preview and the login as the student do not ask the administrator to accept. Test with a real student.
