Exams report

How students do in exams: completions, approval rate, average score and score distribution, and each student's results with the answer sheet.

The exams report shows how students do in exams: how many completed, how many passed, the average score and how scores are spread. From each exam, you open each student's results and their answer sheet.

What it is for

  • Low approval rate with a high average score. The minimum score sits close to the average. Look at the distribution: many completions just below the passing range point to an exam at the edge.
  • Many completions in 0 to 20. Students finish on time-out or guess. Open the results and a few answer sheets.
  • An exam with few completions in a busy product. The exam sits far into the course, or students stop before it. Compare with the products report.

The report is in Reports → Exams, in the Learning group.

What counts as a completion

  • A completion is an attempt the student finished: they submitted every question or the time ran out.
  • If the student retakes the exam, the new attempt replaces the previous one. Only the new one counts.
  • Scores go from 0 to 100.
  • A student passes when the score is equal to or above the minimum score. The minimum the exam had at the time of the attempt applies. Changing the minimum later does not change old results.

The numbers and the charts

At the top, four numbers: Exams, Conclusions, Approval rate and Average score. They follow the Product chip and the period.

Below, two charts:

  • Approval (Passed vs. failed): the donut with the rate in the center and the counts of Approved and Failed.
  • Score distribution (Completions by score range): how many completions fell in each range, from 0 to 20 up to 81 to 100.

The exam list

The list shows the exams of products in showcases that were not deleted. The exam with the most completions comes first.

ColumnWhat it measures
ExamThe title, with the showcase and product below. The title opens the exam in the product
ConclusionsHow many finished attempts the exam has in the filter
Approval ratePassed over completions. The bar turns green from 70%, amber from 50% and red below that
Average scoreThe average of the completions' scores

An exam with no completion shows a dash in the rate and the score.

Filters

  • Search exam... finds an exam by title. The search filters only the list. The numbers at the top do not change.
  • The Product chip filters the whole screen: numbers, charts and list. The chip only offers products that have exams.
  • Period: All time (the default), This month, Last month or Custom. The period counts by the completion date.

Heads up: with a period, the list shows only the exams that had a completion in it. An exam that vanished was not deleted. Go back to All time to see it.

See each student's results

  2. On the exam's row, click View results by student.

The screen opens with the same period as the list. Back to the exams report goes back with the same filter.

At the top, the exam shows Conclusions, Approved (with the percentage) and Average score.

The list has one row per completion. The newest comes first:

Good to know

Updated every 24 hours.

The numbers at the top and the charts without a filter update once a day. The list, the results by student and the numbers with the Product chip or a period are calculated on the spot. That is why a completion from today shows in the list before it enters the number at the top.

Completions, progress and passing.

An attempt reopened or a result deleted by an administrator leaves the completions. Finishing the exam completes the lesson even when failing. That is why product progress and passing are different things.

Students in the trash.

They leave every count in this report.
