> What a tag is and is not, how to create and apply tags to students (profile, delivery or import) and where to use them: filters, exports and drip content.

A tag is a label you put on a student, such as "Class A" or "Bought offer B". It names classes, filters the student list and links the student to a release schedule in drip content. It does not give access to any product; that is the enrollment. You create and organize tags in **Students > Tags**.

## How it works

A tag alone does nothing. Its effect depends on where you use it:

| Where | What the tag does |
|---|---|
| **Students > Students** | The **Tags** filter shows anyone with any of the chosen tags. The export uses the filter and adds a column with each student's tags |
| **Sales > Deliveries** | Each delivery can give tags to the students who come in through it |
| **Content > Drip content** | A release schedule takes the name of a tag. Whoever has the tag follows that schedule |
| **Students > Imports** | The tags column of the spreadsheet gives tags to each imported student |
| Support | With **Show student tags** on in **Settings > Support**, the team sees the tags of whoever writes in |

What a tag is **not**:

- **It does not give access.** Having the "Class A" tag gives no product by itself. Access comes from the enrollment.
- **It is not the release schedule.** The release schedule says when each lesson opens. The tag is the name that links the schedule to students. If you change a student's tag, they move to another schedule. The tag alone sets no date.
- **It is not a purchase status.** The delivery's tag means "this sale was processed for them". A refund takes access away, but leaves the tag.

**Heads up: this is where most mistakes happen.** Lia asks for a refund of offer X. Her access ends, but the "Bought offer X" tag stays. If a campaign uses that tag, Lia stays in it. Remove the tag by hand from whoever was refunded.

## The tags screen

**Students > Tags** lists each tag with its **ID**, its name and how many students have it. The number is a shortcut: click it and the student list opens filtered by that tag. The **How does it work?** button shows the scheme of the tag linked to drip content, deliveries and students.

## Step by step

### Create a tag

1. Open **Students > Tags**.
2. Click **New Tag**.
3. In **Name**, type the name. For example: "Class A".
4. Click **Save**.

Two tags cannot have the same name.

To rename, click the name in the list and edit it in place. Enter saves. The release schedule with that tag changes its name everywhere it appears.

### Give a tag to a student

1. Open the student's profile.
2. In the sidebar, expand the details down to **Tags**.
3. Click **Manage**.
4. Check and uncheck the tags in the list.
5. Save.

If the account has no tags yet, the **Create tags** shortcut leads to the tags screen.

### Give tags through the delivery

1. Open **Sales > Deliveries**.
2. Open the delivery.
3. In the **Tags** field, choose the tags the students of this delivery get.
4. Save the delivery.

From then on, every sale processed through that delivery gives the tags to the student. If the tag is missing, Cademí gives it again. A student you removed the tag from gets it back on the next sale through the same delivery.

To give the tags to those who already had the delivery, use **Add to students who already have this Delivery**. It applies to the past and can reach many students at once. It cannot be undone in bulk.

### Give tags through an import

In the import spreadsheet, the tags column takes the names separated by semicolons: "Class A; VIP". If a name does not exist yet, Cademí creates the tag when it analyzes the file. See [Student import](https://help.cademi.cloud/en/alunos/importacao.md).

### Delete a tag

1. In the list, click the row's trash icon.
2. Confirm in **Delete tag**.

The students are not deleted. Only the tag leaves all of them.

- **A tag in use by a release rule:** it cannot be deleted. The screen says how many rules use the tag. Take the tag out of those rules or switch them to another tag first.
- **A tag that comes from the main account, on a clone:** it cannot be renamed or deleted on the clone. The origin account decides.

## Good to know

- **New class, new tag.** For a class with its own release schedule, create three things: a tag for the class, a schedule with that tag and a delivery that gives it. If you reuse the previous class's tag, both classes change together.
- **Refunded buyers in a campaign.** The refund does not remove the tag. Processing the refund can even add the tag, if it was missing. Remove the tag by hand from whoever was refunded.
- **Retiring a class name.** Delete the tag only after no release schedule uses it.
- **On an import.** The delivery's own tags also come in. The import only adds tags. It never removes a tag the student already has.
- **In filters.** Several tags mean "any of them". For "this one and that one", filter by one and check the other in the profile. Or export and cross-check in the file.

## Frequently asked questions

**I gave the class tag and the student still cannot see the module.** The tag puts the student on the release schedule with its name. The module opens on that schedule's date. See the schedule on the product's row, in the **Products** tab of the profile. If they need to see it earlier, switch **Scheduled** to **Immediate** on that row.

**Can I delete a tag that is on a release schedule?** Not while the schedule exists. The screen refuses and says how many rules use the tag. Switch the schedule's tag, or delete the schedule. Then delete the tag.

**Does deleting the tag delete the students?** No. The students stay and only lose the tag.

**The student asked for a refund and still has the tag.** That is expected: the refund does not remove the tag. Remove the tag by hand if a campaign depends on it.
